About Royal Tunbridge Wells

The town was founded around the Chalybeate Spring in the famous Pantiles about 400 years ago and was awarded the title 'Royal' nearly 100 years ago in recognition of its appeal as a Spa town to Royalty and the aristocracy.  The town is notable for its many period buildings of the 17th and 18th Centuries and lovely parks and the historic Common which drives a pleasant green 'wedge' almost into the centre of the built up area.

Today, Tunbridge Wells (as it is more often called) is a vibrant town with restuarants, smart cafes and bars, trendy shops, supermarkets, 2 theatres, multiplex cinemas, golf course, sports centres including indoor tennis, squash, badminton and swimming pool, as well as a mainline rail station providing services to London.  There are good schools locally and the area is part of the Grammar school system.

Local attractions include the monthly Farmers' Market and the summer-long music festival in the Pantiles.
