Why I love The Dormansland Carnival by Mark Floyd.
I think I have attended the Dormansland Carnival nearly every year it has been going with some or all of my family.
It is the one event that the village have where everyone gets together and relaxes. There are so many things to see and do; if you are energetic you can do the tug of war if you are not you can watch it with a beer in your hand.
The run up to the carnival is great fun, we love spotting the scarecrows and this year’s theme is just brilliant…”Heroes and Villains”. Scooby Doo is my favourite hero and you can see him grabbing a Scooby snack in the middle of a chase in West Street.
If the sun shines then what could be better than drinking beer, sipping pimms or having tea and cake in the WI Tea Tent? Catching up with people you haven’t seen for a while, watching the displays and meandering around the stalls.
Then in the evening sitting on a blanket or even under it if it gets chilly, we get to watch the bands and imagine that we are at a gig in Hyde Park, they are that good.
The float procession starts at 1.45pm on Saturday with floats by all the groups and the school and the carnival at 2pm at the recreation ground… see you there!
