Why I Love Bletchingley

Why I Love Bletchingley

I don’t have to think very hard to come up with reasons why I love Bletchingley and working in this lovely Surrey village.

THE BLETCHINGLEY VILLAGE FAIR

IMG_8193

I have to mention this as we are fast approaching this year’s fair on Sunday 26th June. I feel privileged to be a part of this annual event; it is great fun for all the family. This year we have live music from The United Stoats of America (straight from Guilfest), along with the traditional May Queen parade, exciting gymnastics display, local stalls and produce, bbq and beer tent, farm animals, tombola, dog show, local stalls and produce. Plus we are raffling a dolls house again this year.

THE SCENERY

Every day I get to drive through the surrounding countryside with simply stunning views of the North Downs across the famous Bletchingley Golf Course and even better views from the ruins of Bletchingley castle. How lucky am I?

MY FAVOURITE SPOT

There are so many beautiful bridle paths around the village and my favourite spot is the footpath that winds through the churchyard and behind the conservation area through open fields.

THE HOUSES

Bletchingley-Houses

Bletchingley is one of the oldest villages in the country and that is reflected in the houses that I have the pleasure of visiting on a daily basis, whether I have been invited to value a home or show a potential buyer. The mixture is so exciting from an estate agency point of view, from period hall houses dating back to 15th century to the more modern highly regarded Clerks Croft estate built by Whelan Homes, from large bungalows to apartments, it is a real pleasure to be able to sell them.

PLACES TO EAT

For a small village there is a good choice of pubs The Bletchingley Arms, The Red Lion and The Whyte Harte all of which serve great food. And then there is the lovely Lamington Tea Rooms for a light lunch or cake, in fact Dame Judi Dench’s daughter, Finty Williams, once told Surrey Life magazine: “In my opinion, Lamingtons in Bletchingley is the only place for coffee and cakes.”

THE PEOPLE

Bletchingley

And last but by no means least the people. I love working in this village because everyone is so friendly, if I pop out for something people smile and say hello. When we all get together at the fair there is such a great feeling of community. It is a lovely mix of young families, professional couples, retired people and it just works.
